NYU Langone Health`s Office of Legal Counsel provides legal services to NYU Langone Health, including NYU Langone Health, NYU Grossman School of Medicine and NYU Long Island School of Medicine. Community & Legal Aid Services Program (CLASP) is an interdisciplinary student legal aid society with students from Osgoode Hall Law School and York University`s School of Social Work. CLASP provides legal assistance to people who cannot afford a lawyer. CLASP provides free legal advice and representation to community members and York students. We are funded by the Law Foundation of Ontario, Legal Aid Ontario, York Students and Osgoode Law Hall School. Students work in our clinic under the supervision of experienced lawyers. Our legal advice can help you with family and criminal law, debt issues, landlord-tenant disputes, corporate law, real estate, intellectual property, immigration and government agencies. The OGC`s mission is to provide professional and reliable legal advice, guidance and support, including: Community and Legal Aid Services Programme (CLASP) provides free legal services to low-income residents of Toronto and York University students. CLASP also provides free legal services to low-income residents outside of Toronto for criminal proceedings in the City of Toronto. CLASP also provides social work services to existing clients if clients request this service. Services are provided by law students and social work students, who are supervised by lawyers and social workers.

The purpose of this website is to provide members of the NYU community with an understanding of what OGC is, the services it provides, and other resources that may be useful to faculty, staff, or students, such as important university policies and procedures. Consultations are usually carried out by e-mail, but if necessary, personal appointments can be arranged, for example to certify documents. The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) serves as a strategic partner for its academic clients, providing the university with timely and specialized legal advice to support NYU`s educational goals. Led by Aisha Oliver-Staley, Senior Vice-President, General Counsel and Secretary of the University, the office is staffed by lawyers, other lawyers and administrative staff. If circumstances warrant, the OGC also has exclusive discretion to interview and engage outside counsel for NYU and its subsidiaries. Legal advice is provided by William (Bill) Reid, who holds an MBA and a law degree, who has been practicing and advising students for over a decade.
